Steam for the Next Generation!
The Glyn Valley Tramway Trust is excited to announce the start of a new project, one to construct the tramway’s first steam locomotive.
The story of GVT No.5 starts with the Castro family. Originally a metalworking project by Christopher Castro based on a Kerr Stuart Tattoo class locomotive, when he passed away his family looked for some way of continuing the build in his memory. In March 2025 they posted the frames online and seeing that post, the GVTT reached out offering to take the project on. The Castros gratefully accepted, on the condition the engine be named Christopher, in honour of her progenitor.
Now we need your help to complete No.5 and get steam running on the Glyn Valley Tramway! That’s why we’ve formed the No. 5 Club, a way for you to help get Christopher built and follow the project along the way.
With your help we can return steam to Chirk for the first time since 1935. Join the club today!
